Diagnostic Techniques Used to Detect Polyps

Accurate detection of polyps relies on a combination of imaging, endoscopic procedures, and laboratory analysis. The choice of diagnostic method depends on the suspected location and patient symptoms.

Colonoscopy remains the gold standard for detecting colon polyps. This procedure allows direct visualization of the intestinal lining and enables immediate removal of suspicious growths. Flexible sigmoidoscopy examines a limited portion of the colon and may be used for targeted screening.

Imaging techniques such as ultrasound, CT scans, and MRI help identify polyps in organs like the gallbladder and uterus. Sonohysterography is particularly useful for visualizing uterine polyps with enhanced clarity.

Nasal endoscopy allows specialists to inspect nasal passages and sinuses for inflammatory polyps. This minimally invasive technique provides real-time assessment and guides treatment planning.

Biopsy and histological examination confirm the nature of detected polyps. Tissue samples are analyzed under a microscope to determine cellular features, malignancy risk, and appropriate follow-up.

Timely and accurate diagnosis ensures effective management and reduces the likelihood of complications associated with undetected polyps.
